A 49-year-old man was arrested on Monday evening (22/6) and faced police charges of assault and theft against a 76-year-old woman.
The incident occurred in the Analepsi area, on the eastern side of Thessaloniki. The suspect approached the victim, who was on the street, and with brute force knocked her to the ground. Once the woman had fallen, he seized her bag and fled.
The bag contained cash, credit cards and personal documents belonging to the elderly woman. The victim was transferred to a healthcare facility in the city for initial treatment. Reports indicate that her life is not in danger.
Officers from the DIAS unit managed to locate and apprehend the perpetrator shortly after the incident. The source of the information is ERT.
A case file was opened against the 49-year-old for robbery. The authorities are now investigating the possibility that the same man may have committed similar acts in the area.
