Two foreign nationals attacked in Zagreb: Colombian arrested as victim
Two foreign nationals were attacked in Zagreb on Thursday – a Colombian on Medveščak and two Brazilians in a tram on Horvaćanska Road.
Attack at night, arrest upon police arrival: two incidents in one day
Večernji list reports that Zagreb was the scene of two separate attacks on foreign nationals on Thursday – one nighttime robbery on Medveščak and one physical assault in a tram in broad daylight.
Around 2.30 a.m. on Medveščak, in Ulica kneza Borne, two currently unidentified assailants intercepted a 26-year-old Colombian citizen. They used physical force, injured him and stole his money, mobile phone and bag. The young man sustained minor bodily injuries.
When police arrived, a routine identity check determined that the Colombian did not have a proper residence status in the Republic of Croatia. The victim of the nighttime robbery was arrested on the spot on suspicion of unlawful residence in the country. Police officers left the scene with the detainee rather than solely with a report against the perpetrators.
Around 1 p.m., as a tram travelled along Horvaćanska Road in Trešnjevka, an unknown man began verbally insulting two Brazilian citizens, and then physically attacked them. After the assault he fled the tram in an unknown direction. The two Brazilians did not sustain bodily injuries.
The Zagreb Police Directorate confirmed that detailed criminal investigations are underway for both cases. The tram attacker is still being sought.
