Split man (34) sentenced to 6 years in prison for rape and domestic violence – on the run
A Split court has sentenced a 34-year-old man to six years in prison for rape, indecent assault and domestic violence. He failed to appear for the sentence announcement and police are searching for him.
Sentenced to six years, vanishes before serving sentence
A Split court has imposed a single sentence of six years in prison on a 34-year-old man for six criminal offences committed against his wife, according to Index.hr citing Dalmatinski portal. He has been found guilty of rape, four counts of indecent assault and domestic violence.
The violence occurred in the home of the injured party in the period following the wife's announcement that she was leaving. According to the sentence, the man raped her while she slept, despite her explicit objection. The attacks would only cease when the victim woke up.
On four occasions he also committed indecent assault, likewise while the victim was asleep. In addition, he insulted her on a daily basis and accused her of infidelity, forcing her to confess to affairs that did not occur. During one argument, he pushed her forcefully and began to strangle her, but she managed to break free and escape.
For rape he was sentenced to five years in prison; for each of the four counts of indecent assault to six months; and for domestic violence to one year. The court combined the sentences into a single sentence of six years.
In addition to the prison sentence, two security measures were imposed: mandatory psychosocial treatment and protective supervision following completion of the sentence.
Since the sentence exceeded five years, the court ordered pre-trial detention. However, the convicted man failed to appear for the sentence announcement. Police have been notified and an order has been issued for his location and delivery to serve his sentence.
