Sisak police have brought criminal charges against a 45-year-old woman who headed an animal welfare association and allegedly denied dogs veterinary care and appropriate accommodation.

Sisak police have filed criminal charges against a 45-year-old woman from Dvor municipality and handed her over to detention authorities, according to Index.hr. The suspect headed an animal welfare association and was entrusted with dogs, who are suspected to have been tortured and killed by her.

According to police allegations, in the settlement of Vanići the 45-year-old woman denied dogs veterinary care and appropriate space for accommodation. The consequences were severe malnutrition and the death of multiple animals.

"She did not provide them with veterinary care and appropriate space for keeping animals, which led to severe conditions and malnutrition, as well as the death of multiple dogs," police stated.

Veterinary inspection officers also attended the scene and conducted an inspection. An indictment will be filed against the suspect for violations of the Animal Protection Act and the Animal Health Act.
