A drunk man armed with an explosive device was arrested on a Saturday afternoon in one of Zagreb's parks. Citizens reported to police that an unknown person was sitting on a bench in the Peščenica city district and that he had a bomb with him.
The intervention unit quickly arrived at the scene and found a thirty-year-old man in an intoxicated state. A search revealed two sharp objects and one explosive device in his possession. Police officers immediately seized the dangerous items, deactivated the explosive, and prevented the suspect's escape using handcuffs.
According to a report carried by Delo.si, citing the Croatian news agency Hina, officials prevented potential injury to citizens through their timely response. Official sources did not disclose the exact type of explosive, but the internet portal Index claims it was a hand grenade.
The apprehended man is being held in custody on suspicion of illegal possession, production and purchase of weapons and explosive substances. Investigators established that the person has an extensive criminal history — in the previous period he had been involved in proceedings multiple times for various misdemeanours and serious offences.
