A police officer off duty identified and stopped a 41-year-old man known for theft offences at a nursery school in Balassagyarmat – according to police.hu.

The case began on 28 September when a wallet went missing from the bag of the director of one of the Balassagyarmat nursery schools in her office. The wallet contained 10,000 forints in cash, personal documents and bank cards.

On 3 November the man returned to the same institution, where he attempted to gain entry on the pretext of asking for water. When staff asked him to leave, he departed, and later that afternoon he appeared at another nursery school in Balassagyarmat. There he was recognised by the off-duty police officer, who had previously questioned him for burglary thefts and regarded his presence as suspicious.

The police officer immediately put himself on duty and took action against the man. The wallet stolen in September was found in his clothing along with the victim's documents and bank cards – although the 10,000 forints was missing from it.

Police in Balassagyarmat brought the man from Mátratereny in for questioning on suspicion of theft. The wallet and the documents found in it were seized.
