Man from Heves County accused of obtaining money through false loan promises
A 59-year-old man from Heves County defrauded several people using fake loan and investment offers. The Szeghalm Police Headquarters has recommended prosecution.
Man defrauded people with fake loan offers, prosecution recommended
A 59-year-old man from Heves County caused harm to several people through loan and investment promises, police.hu reported. On 2 November, the Szeghalm Police Headquarters forwarded the case files to the prosecutor's office with a recommendation for prosecution, after investigations identified and charged the perpetrator.
The case began last September, when a woman from Veszto filed a report with police. The woman responded to a loan offer she found on a social media platform, then maintained contact with the advertiser through two messaging applications. The unknown man requested a transfer of 30,000 forints as a condition for the loan application. After the money arrived, the advertiser became unreachable: he neither disbursed the loan nor returned the sum.
Investigators discovered that the man had defrauded others as well. He obtained 160,000 forints from a man from Ujlengyel as a precondition for borrowing in the same manner. He misled a woman from Hódmezővásárhely with investment promises, returning the money she had paid only after the victim indicated she would file a police report.
The Szeghalm Police Headquarters suspects the 59-year-old man of the crime of fraud. During the investigation, the man transferred back the amounts taken from the victims to the victims, so part of the damage was compensated.
