Budapest arrest operation: 183 cases closed, including top 50 wanted man captured
The BRFK Arrest Warrant Division identified or apprehended 183 wanted persons in a coordinated June operation. A man listed on the national top 50 wanted list was found hiding in a bed linen storage compartment.
Coordinated raid: 183 wanted persons identified after review of 1,620 cases
According to police.hu, the Budapest Police Headquarters Arrest Warrant Division conducted a coordinated inspection on 1 June at dawn in cooperation with the VII, VIII and XIX district police stations, the Public Order Protection Directorate, and staff from police stations outside Budapest.
During the preparatory phase from 18 May until the day of the operation, investigators reviewed 1,620 cases, including arrest warrants, wanted notices issued to determine place of residence, and missing persons cases.
As a result of the operation, 183 people were apprehended or their place of residence was established. The issued wanted notices covered a total of 12 years and 3 months of unserved custodial sentences, as well as nearly two million forints in unpaid fines. Ten missing persons were found safe and sound, and seventeen were taken into custody in connection with drug-related offences.
One of the most significant captures of the operation was the apprehension of a 26-year-old man listed on the national top 50 wanted list. On 28 May around midday, staff of the BRFK Criminal Intervention Division found him hiding in a bed linen storage compartment in a flat in the XIII district. The court had previously sentenced him to 7 years and 6 months imprisonment for the offence of robbery.
