In 2022, a woman was killed in a Budapest home, and according to the court, the perpetrator was the man living with her. According to the charge, the victim died of asphyxiation, after which the perpetrator went to a cinema where authorities apprehended him. The victim's nine-year-old son was present in the flat at the time of the tragedy.

The suspect, C. Károly, had been held in custody for four years. Under the law, this is the maximum duration of pre-trial detention in murder cases. After this period elapsed, the court released him and imposed criminal supervision.

According to the conditions, the defendant cannot leave the capital and must report to police every two days. József Szabó, spokesman for the Budapest Court of Appeals, stated that the prosecution has filed an appeal and wishes for the man to be placed under house arrest and to wear an electronic bracelet. The court has yet to make a decision on this matter.

During the investigation, an additional complaint was filed against the defendant. The victim's mother claims that the man attempted to persuade her and the victim's child to change their testimony. The suspect denies this.

The defendant is currently doing physical labour and is free to move about Budapest.
