Life sentence sought for former soldier who fatally stabbed ex-partner
The Kaposvár Regional Investigative Prosecutor's Office has brought charges against a man who previously served as a contract soldier and who ended his former partner's life in November 2025 in the Somogy county seat.
According to the charge, on 15 November 2025, the man arrived at the woman's flat in Kaposvár with the intention of collecting his personal belongings. However, the meeting escalated into an argument, and the man struck the woman multiple times.
The noise attracted the great-uncle who lived on the ground floor to the stairwell, where he encountered the defendant. The man punched the relative with such force that he fell to the ground. Following this, the defendant retrieved two stabbing weapons from the kitchen and, while threatening with them, stabbed the great-uncle in multiple places, who sustained cut wounds to his head and neck. These injuries healed within eight days.
The man then hurried to the upper floor, where he assaulted his ex-partner again, and then with one of the knives inflicted such severe injuries on her that the woman lost her life.
During the investigation, the authorities found narcotics both in the man's body and in the flat. For this reason, the prosecution is also holding him responsible for drug possession and consumption.
Following the crime, on 24 November 2025, the Hungarian Defence Force terminated the man's military service relationship before the case came to light. The reason for the decision: unworthiness.
The prosecutor's office requested that the defendant's detention be maintained and also asked the Kaposvár Court to sentence the man to life imprisonment. The criminal law provisions applicable to soldiers are stricter than those for civilians.
