Charges have been brought against the director and five employees of a specialised children's home in western Hungary who starved, humiliated and abused the children in their care.

Six employees of a specialised children's home operating near Sopron have been charged after it emerged that they systematically endangered and coerced the minors in their care through violence. According to the authorities, between 2021 and 2022, the carers regularly insulted, beat and subjected the children to various humiliating punishments.
According to the charges, the director of the institution claimed that strict rules and harsh discipline created safety. Five carers, supervisors and educators supported this approach and jointly applied violent methods – according to a report on HVG.
The victims were punished with cleaning tasks extending into the night, hours of standing in a corner and food deprivation. There were instances where poor quality food was provided only or sustenance was completely withheld. The children were also subjected to physical abuse.
During the investigation, it emerged that several defendants threatened the victims, saying that if they did not support the educators during the investigation, further violence would be applied against them. According to the prosecutor's office, the conduct of the carers seriously endangered the moral and mental development of the children.
At Sopron District Court, custodial sentences, as well as bans from public office and work with minors, have been sought for all six defendants.
