Four people will remain in pre-trial detention in a bribery case affecting the capital's municipal authorities following the court's ruling on Monday – Index reported, citing sources from Magyar Nemzet.
Despite the defence's appeal, the second-instance decision means that Tünde Szkaliczki and Károly Matisz, who were formerly members of Momentum, will remain in custody. Also remaining in detention with them are Tamás Gy., the owner of the Hungast Group, and a fourth person. The initial detention order was imposed a week and a half ago, though all those affected lodged appeals.
The Central Investigation Prosecution launched the investigation in early June, when simultaneous searches were conducted at multiple locations in Budapest and Pécs. During the police operation, businesspeople and public figures were also brought in for questioning.
According to the suspicion, the leaders of a large catering company sought to acquire and maintain municipal contracts in the capital and Baranya county through financial benefits. The investigation is proceeding on the grounds of abuse of influence and related offences. According to press reports, the authorities had previously become aware of the suspect network, and further decisions may be made in the coming days regarding other suspects.
