Bribery testimony given in District II park maintenance cases
In the corruption proceedings surrounding park maintenance companies, entrepreneur Z. Zsolt gave a full testimony to the authorities – according to 24.hu.
The man decided to cooperate because, according to the indictment, he hoped for a more lenient sentence in another criminal case against him for VAT fraud in exchange. On the basis of the interrogation records, virtually everyone in park maintenance businesses accepted corruption, with the parties only varying based on the size of the amounts.
According to Z.'s account, a friendly relationship developed with Zsolt Láng, the district's Fidesz leader at the time. The contractor said that from 2015 onwards he handed over fifteen million forints per year to the mayor, in monthly instalments. In addition to the money, he also paid for joint trips, massages and a painting by Mihály Schéner.
After the electoral defeat in 2019, the payments allegedly did not cease. According to Z., Láng continued to receive three million forints per month. The contractor also claimed that he had made an agreement with the new, opposition mayor, Gergely Őrsi. Z. allegedly knew Őrsi for a decade, having previously worked as an assistant to socialist politician Zsolt Molnár. According to the testimony, after the election, Őrsi immediately named the desired amounts: thirty million forints for 2020, seventy million for 2021, ninety million for 2022, and one hundred million for 2023 in exchange for a contract covering the four-year period.
According to the contractor, he accepted this offer because, based on expected revenues, the payments seemed to be recoverable.
