House searches in case linked to central bank
The Central Investigation Prosecution Office (KNyF) and the Constabulary National Investigation Bureau (KR NNI) conducted searches at multiple properties in a joint operation. The measure is connected to the so-called MNB case.
The authorities did not share details of the operation. They announced that on Friday they would provide further information to journalists at a press briefing.
The head of the Hungarian National Bank previously ordered an internal investigation after data became public concerning the connections between the bank's former managers and Erste Bank. Following analysis of the results of the internal review and information obtained, the MNB's new leadership filed a criminal report in early May. The suspicion is that official misconduct was committed through exceeding authority.
According to the financial institution's statement, documents and data gathered in the case were handed over to the investigative body, which had already examined the case previously.
