Major operation in Andria: 40 arrests for drugs, extortion and failure to provide assistance
Forty people have been arrested in Andria in the context of an anti-drugs and anti-extortion operation, according to tg24.sky.it. The precautionary measures were carried out by the mobile squad of the police headquarters in the Apulian municipality. The judge for preliminary investigations at Trani Court has ordered custody for 25 of the suspects, whilst 15 others have been placed under house arrest.
The investigations, coordinated by the Trani Public Prosecutor's Office, have established the existence of an organised group engaged in the trafficking of narcotic substances in Andria. Among the elements that emerged, also the participation in illicit activities of some people who were already under house arrest, in breach of the restrictions imposed.
The charge of extortion is connected to demands for money accompanied by threats against those who had incurred debts. Completing the picture of the offences contested is a charge for failure to provide assistance: the people responsible for a road accident allegedly fled the scene without providing assistance to the victims.
