Three men were arrested in Aprilia, Anzio and Sant'Elpidio a Mare following an order from the Rome Tribunal. The Carabinieri of the local company accuse them of having managed a thriving trade in illegal substances, as well as possessing a submachine gun.
The restrictive measure was issued following the interrogation of the suspects that took place about fifteen days earlier. The operation is connected to a previous investigative line from May, when 18 other alleged affiliates were placed under house arrest, again in the territory of Aprilia.
The investigations, conducted between February 2021 and December 2022, have their roots in an inquiry that led to the dissolution of the municipal council of Aprilia due to the presence of criminal subversion. The Morabito clan, originally from Africo and inserted within the 'ndrangheta orbit, was at the forefront. This organisation managed the supply of narcotics for the Aprilia market and for other areas: more than seven kilograms of cocaine, half a quintal of hashish and thirty-five kilograms of cannabis.
During the checks, the use of an automatic rifle also emerged, brandished to terrorise those who did not settle their debts. Among those who experienced pressure was the owner of a catering establishment in the Lazio town. For the transfer of merchandise, rental cars from a local company were predominantly used.
Among the participants in the criminal system would also be an employee of the Ministry of Education, who would have made their expertise available to improve indoor cannabis cultivation.
