Mafia, the mayor and the anti-mafia operation in Cosenza province

According to tg24.sky.it, the Carabinieri of the Ros and the Provincial Command of Cosenza executed 41 precautionary measures this morning against members of the 'Ndrangheta. Among those arrested are 24 persons taken into custody and 17 under house arrest, including Flavio Stasi, centre-left mayor of Corigliano-Rossano.

The measure, issued by the judge for preliminary investigation of Catanzaro at the request of the District Anti-mafia Prosecution, contests to various degrees mafia association, murder, possession and carrying of weapons, extortion, robbery, theft, fraudulent transfer of assets, deliberate breach of sentence, and facilitation of illegal immigration. All the offences have been aggravated by mafia method or purpose.

Among the charges stands out the mafia electoral political pact, an element that marks the connection between criminal organisations and the local administrative-political sphere.
