Rogoredo murder: premeditation charge dropped against ex-policeman Cinturrino

Preliminary hearing set for December

According to milanotoday.it, Milan's court has set 18 December for the preliminary hearing before judge Nora Lisa Passoni against Carmelo Cinturrino. The former assistant chief of the State police is accused of the murder of 28-year-old Abderrahim Mansouri, which occurred on 26 January near the Rogoredo wooded area. Cinturrino allegedly fired a pistol shot at the victim's head from a distance of approximately 30 metres.

Prosecution drops the aggravating factor

In mid-October, prosecutor Marcello Viola and public prosecutor Giovanni Tarzia signed the request to send the case to trial for voluntary manslaughter. Compared to the previous phase, the prosecution has withdrawn the aggravating factor of premeditation, whilst maintaining the one relating to breach of duties inherent to public office. This decision significantly alters the procedural framework: without premeditation, the defendant will be able to request an abbreviated trial before the judge for preliminary investigations, avoiding the risk of life imprisonment which would instead entail proceedings in the Assise Court.

The defence's position

Cinturrino's lawyers, Marco Bianucci and Davide Giugno, have announced that in the coming weeks they will assess whether to file a request for an abbreviated trial. The defence of the injured party, represented by lawyer Debora Piazza and her colleague Marco Romagnoli, argues instead that it will be the independent judge who will decide on the existence of premeditation in Mansouri's killing.

Parallel investigation into colleagues

In parallel, a second investigative line proceeds, coordinated by Milan's prosecution office. Cinturrino is under investigation together with six other colleagues for 43 counts of varying offences, including alleged unlawful arrests, extortion and beatings. An evidentiary hearing has already been carried out in which six witnesses were heard.
