In addition to the weapons, officers found 10 sticks of high-potency dynamite, 8 detonators, one kilogramme of cocaine, 12 kilogrammes of marijuana and 5,000 euros in cash.
The operation targeted arms and cocaine trafficking. During the searches, officers arrested a man with a criminal record from Orgosolo and reported seven other persons at liberty residing between Nuoro and Orgosolo. The explosive material, described as weeping and highly unstable, was secured and detonated in a safe location by bomb disposal experts from Cagliari Police Headquarters. The prosecutor believes the material was already prepared for an attack.
The operation involved officers from the Police Stations of Orgosolo and Gavoi, the Crime Prevention Unit Sardinia, the Bomb Disposal Unit of Cagliari, canine units from the police headquarters of Oristano and the Prison Police. Investigations into the weapons will continue to verify whether they were used in other crimes.
