A nationwide action by law enforcement has resulted in the capture of 1,335 individuals and the seizure of almost half a tonne of narcotics. The initiative, directed by the Central Operations Service, involved investigators from Mobile Squads, units of the Crime Prevention Department and personnel from various police headquarters.

Among those arrested are 31 young people under the age of 18. In parallel, 2,358 persons were charged without arrest, of whom 142 were adolescents. The recovered substances amount to approximately 450 kg: 48 of cocaine, 379 of cannabis derivatives and 7 of heroin.

During the sweeps, officers found 111 pistols and rifles, including an assault weapon, military equipment and a bulletproof vest. A further 250 bladed weapons were also recovered: knives, brass knuckles, electric shocks, expandable batons, slingshots, machetes, swords and axes.

Police forces checked almost 300,000 people, of whom over 15,000 were minors. Attention was focused on high-risk urban areas and the surroundings of evening venues, places where substance use is more prevalent.

In the Verona area, Mobile Squad officers conducted targeted operations against small-scale drug trafficking, theft and unlawful possession of weapons. Assisted by the Padua Crime Prevention Department and by the Guardia di Finanza kennels, they identified more than 800 individuals, bringing 11 to prison and charging a further 23.
