Bolzano: Tunisian arrested for drugs after fleeing into river, two officers injured
On Saturday afternoon in the South Tyrolean capital, officers from the Mobile Squad blocked a 20-year-old North African man found with approximately 150 grammes of hashish and a precision scale.
The incident occurred in the Don Bosco district. Noticing the approach of law enforcement, the boy first attempted to get rid of the goods by throwing a bag on the ground, then tried to flee by jumping into the Isarco river. The pursuit ended with the recovery of the individual from the water, not without difficulties for the officers. Two of them sustained injuries that are expected to heal within a week.
The detainee, who does not hold Italian citizenship, was taken to Police Headquarters and subsequently remanded in custody on the order of the magistracy, facing charges of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking, resistance to arrest and assault on public officials.
On the same evening, also in the Don Bosco area, a 41-year-old Italian man with a criminal record was reported. The man, in an evident state of intoxication, damaged several parked cars using a stick. He faces charges of unlawful possession of an improvised weapon, vandalism and insulting a public official.
The activity was part of a series of extraordinary checks ordered by Police Chief Giuseppe Ferrari over the weekend. The objective was to tackle petty crime in the areas considered most at risk in the city. Overall, 151 people and 28 vehicles were checked. Three individuals were reported for breach of the prohibition on residence issued by the Municipality.
