During the night, carabinieri from the special Counter-Terrorism Unit executed a custody order in Latiano, in the Brindisi area. A 30-year-old Palestinian citizen was taken into custody, suspected of having promoted extremist activities through electronic means.

The suspect is accused of having incited the commission of terrorist acts, with the aggravating factor of the use of computer systems and connection with radical ideologies. The investigation is being conducted by the Lecce District Anti-Mafia Directorate, which coordinated the joint operation between members of the Ros and those from the territorial division in Brindisi.

The restrictive measure highlights the constant vigilance of law enforcement on the phenomenon of radicalisation via the web, an area considered a priority in the prevention of domestic terrorism.
