Inter and Italian national team defender Alessandro Bastoni has come under scrutiny in an investigation by the Milan prosecutors' office concerning escort activities. On Friday of this week, the footballer must present himself before judicial authorities.
According to reports from news agency AP, the player is accused of having paid for sexual relations with a 17-year-old girl. The incident dates back to June 2020. Since the girl was a minor at the time, payment for sexual acts constitutes the crime of child prostitution.
Bastoni's lawyer, Salvatore Scuto, stated that his client is "very shaken" and categorically ruled out that he has ever engaged in paid sexual relations, "much less with minors".
Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport reports that the girl has already been questioned. Despite admitting to having stayed at Bastoni's house, she denies having had sexual relations with the footballer.
Bastoni, 27, is considered one of the pillars of Inter's defence and the Italian national team. The past weeks have been particularly difficult for the player, who was sent off during the play-off match against Bosnia and Herzegovina that marked Italy's elimination from the World Cup.
