Couple from Isarco Valley saved by swift report after €50,000 fraud
The Carabinieri of Vipiteno have reported two people for aggravated fraud in concert to the Public Prosecutor's Office in Bolzano. During the investigation, €50,000 was seized.
The incident occurred in mid-June. A couple from Isarco Valley had first received an SMS regarding a suspected suspicious bank transaction. Shortly afterwards, a fraudster presented himself by telephone, posing as a Carabiniere.
The criminal had managed to convince the two spouses to transfer €50,000 via immediate bank transfer to an external account. Furthermore, he had induced them to close their own bank account.
After realising they had been deceived, the couple immediately turned to the genuine Carabinieri. Thanks to the prompt report, investigators were able to intervene at the bank. Despite the transfer being executed in real time, it was possible to prevent the fraudsters from accessing the money.
The entire sum has been secured and can be returned to the victims at the conclusion of the judicial proceedings. Two suspected fraudsters have been identified and reported in a state of freedom.
