Two 18-year-olds detained on SP 525 after check with canine unit

According to ecodibergamo.it, two young people aged 18 were arrested in flagrante delicto during the night between Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 June, along the provincial road 525 in the municipality of Osio Sopra, near a nightlife venue. The operation resulted in the seizure of various controlled substances and packaging materials.

The intervention was conducted by officers from the Bergamo local police, with support from the Canine Unit, in collaboration with the intercommunal police of Osio Sotto, Osio Sopra and Levate. The activity was aimed at combating drug dealing in the area.

During the service, officers stopped a car with four people on board. The driver showed symptoms consistent with the use of controlled substances and refused to undergo the checks provided for by the Road Traffic Code, and was thus reported in a state of liberty pursuant to Article 187.

Decisive was the intervention of the Canine Unit, which indicated the presence of drugs on two occupants of the front seats: an 18-year-old of Italian nationality and one of Estonian nationality. Personal searches and vehicle searches made it possible to seize 9.06 grammes of hashish, 2.60 grammes of ketamine, 0.25 grammes of cocaine, 29 tablets of ecstasy, 34 tablets of Rivotril — a prescription drug — and two precision scales. A minor passenger found in possession of a modest amount of drugs for personal use was reported to the administrative authority.

The investigation continued with house searches of the two arrested individuals. In the residence of the Italian young man, officers found a further 58.58 grammes of hashish and material used for packaging. On the basis of the elements gathered, both 18-year-olds were arrested on the charge of possession for the purpose of trafficking in controlled substances in concert.

The two were placed under house arrest pending the validation hearing with immediate trial procedure, which took place on the morning of Monday 29 June. The judge validated the arrests and ordered for the Italian young man the obligation to report to the judicial police three times a week. For the Estonian, the proceeding was adjourned to a subsequent hearing, without the application of precautionary measures.
