A pursuit in Brescia's historic centre concluded with the arrest of a 48-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman. Both are from the city and have extensive criminal records for offences against property, against the person, and drug-related crimes. The man was already subject to a preventive measure.
The arrest came about on the evening of a few days ago, when a resident of Viale Piave contacted the Police Headquarters Operations Centre after noticing an unusual noise coming from the street. Looking out, the citizen observed two individuals tampering with a parked moped using burglary tools, including a pickaxe. Two other accomplices acted as lookouts, alerting the thieves to the passing of cars and pedestrians.
Officers from the Flying Squad, sent to the scene, tracked down two of the four criminals. On seeing the patrols, the two attempted to evade the check by hiding among parked vehicles and then fleeing in opposite directions. After a brief foot pursuit through the streets of the centre, they were stopped and immobilised.
A search of their persons and the location made it possible to find and seize the tools used for the theft. The two were arrested for aggravated robbery in concert and unlawful possession of burglary tools, and were then placed at the disposal of the judicial authorities.
Questore Paolo Sartori issued them with a formal warning for public safety, in preparation for the application of special surveillance. The search for the two fleeing accomplices continues.
