A former employee of a Sardinian waste management company has been arrested for unlawfully using company fuel cards, causing damage of approximately €120,000.

Officers from the IV Section of the Mobile Squad in Cagliari have arrested a former worker of a company that manages waste collection and disposal in several municipalities across Sardinia. The individual, previously dismissed for disciplinary reasons, is accused of causing the company an estimated economic loss of around €120,000 over a period of approximately three months.
The investigation was launched following a complaint by the company. According to what emerged, the man had begun unlawfully using the fuel cards starting in February 2026, continuing this conduct until the investigation commenced. The fraudulent refuelling operations were carried out at various petrol stations scattered across the province's territory, highlighting a methodical and repeated plan over time.
Investigators conducted surveillance and shadowing operations, managing to catch the suspect in flagrante delicto in recent days in Sestu. The man, inside a van, had just completed a refuel worth approximately €700 paid for with one of the cards under investigation. During a search of his home, officers found and seized a further 200 litres of diesel fuel, stored in around ten jerry cans. The fuel was considered to be the proceeds of previous unlawful refuelling.
