A young man struck by a car following an altercation outside a nightclub did not survive. The driver, stopped while drunk, is accused of murder.
Genoa, fatal hit-and-run in Corso Italia: 29-year-old Corrieri dies, driver arrested
Edoardo Corrieri, 29 years old, did not survive after being struck by a car during the night between Friday and Saturday on the Genoa waterfront. Admitted to intensive care, he did not survive the serious injuries he sustained.
The prosecutor's office entered Vincenzo Rametta, 28 years old, in the register of those under investigation for murder. The charge was initially attempted murder, but it was updated following the victim's death. Rametta was driving the Audi Q3 that struck Corrieri. According to the findings of the investigators, supported by film footage, it would appear that the act was not random.
The circumstances would trace everything back to an incident that occurred near a nightclub. Rametta allegedly approached in an aggressive manner a young woman who was with Corrieri's group. In the face of reactions from those present, he allegedly fled, then pursued by some of the young men. It was at this point that, while driving the vehicle, he allegedly struck Corrieri and then drove away.
The police subsequently identified him near the Baretto, also on Corso Italia. Upon the arrival of officers, he presented a clear state of intoxication and was detained at the scene.
