A heinous crime has plunged the town of Miano, in the province of Naples, into mourning. On 23 June, Lorenzo Spasiano, 21 years old, was struck by a gunshot to the chest whilst heading to work. The murderer, according to investigations, was a 16-year-old adolescent connected to the Lo Russo criminal family.
On the fatal morning, the young construction worker had prepared to leave. Upon crossing the threshold of his home, an armed individual shot him with a deliberate bullet. His father, who was inside the house, heard the gunshot and rushed out. Salvatore Spasiano, an ambulance driver by profession, desperately attempted to resuscitate his son before the paramedics arrived. Despite prompt intervention, Lorenzo died.
Law enforcement soon reconstructed the sequence of events. The alleged murderer is believed to have acted out of revenge. In March, during an amateur football match, the two had scuffled over a clash during play. The younger one, humiliated by defeat in a subsequent street brawl — where Lorenzo had got the better of him thanks to his boxing experience — apparently harboured resentment.
In the months that followed, the sixteen-year-old would have bombarded the victim with threatening messages. Spasiano had never filed a complaint. The town's parish priest, Don Salvatore Cinque, remembered the boy as a decent person, uninvolved in trouble and active as a volunteer at a bakery in the neighbourhood.
The local association Nessuno tocchi Ippocrate condemned the incident: "A football match cannot turn into a tragedy. We reject all forms of violence."
