The office of the Prosecutor General at the Milan Court of Appeal has reiterated its position in favour of the pardon granted to Nicole Minetti. The decision was made following further investigative activity requested by the Presidency of the Republic following press publications.
The former member of the Lombard regional council, known for her role in matters related to the Ruby trial, had obtained the remission of her sentence by presidential decision last February. The final conviction, amounting to three years, concerned the offences of facilitating prostitution and unlawful appropriation.
Following press investigations that had raised doubts about the correctness of the clemency application, the head of state had requested further enquiries. The Milan magistracy, after delegating investigations to the Carabinieri and Interpol, established that the published reports do not find support in the facts and that there are no new elements capable of modifying the judgment expressed previously.
In particular, it was clarified that no cross-border investigations were opened because Montevideo does not host proceedings against the person in question. The Carabinieri have moreover collected statements that contradict the reconstructions relating to alleged parties with narcotics and sexual services.
The dossier has now been returned to Justice Minister Carlo Nordio for subsequent formalities.
