Financial Police: 16-month report from South Tyrol, fraud exceeding 55 million euros
The Financial Police in South Tyrol have presented a report of activities from January 2025 to May 2026: over 3,600 inspections, tax fraud of 55 million euros, almost one tonne of drugs seized and 185 employers reported for undeclared work.

The Financial Police provincial command in Bolzano has released an account of operations conducted between January 2025 and May 2026. Over sixteen months, officers carried out more than 3,600 inspections in the South Tyrolean territory, uncovering illicit financial flows worth millions of euros.
In the sector of tax audits, investigators identified 89 companies completely unknown to the tax authorities, defined as "total tax evaders". To these are added almost one thousand undeclared workers discovered during inspections. For these violations, charges were filed against 185 employers.
Particularly significant results were achieved in the field of international taxation. Officers discovered 19 cases of tax evasion with a combined volume exceeding 55 million euros. According to the Financial Police, these involved "fictitious foreign transfers": companies that had moved their headquarters only on paper abroad to avoid paying taxes in Italy.
In total, over 200 people were reported for tax crimes, of whom three were arrested. Seized assets amount to approximately 14.5 million euros. Money laundering operations worth 23 million euros were also identified. In the sector of asset seizure, officers requested anti-mafia measures for a value exceeding 15 million euros.
Public funds audits also yielded results. In monitoring public spending and funds from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), the Financial Police uncovered fraud exceeding 18 million euros. More than 50 people were reported; the damage reported to the Court of Auditors exceeds ten million euros.
Efforts against drug trafficking were also intense. During the period examined, officers seized almost one tonne of illegal substances, precisely over 977 kilograms. Twelve people were arrested, while a further hundred were reported.
The Mountain Rescue Service of the Financial Police was also very active. The five Mountain Rescue stations (SAGF), together with the aerial squad from Bolzano, intervened in 655 operations, saving 670 people in difficulty in the mountains.
