On the evening of yesterday, in the San Bernardo district of Ivrea, in the province of Turin, a 47-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. The man, originally from Moldova, was in the house with his live-in partner when a violent argument broke out between the two.
During the altercation, the man poured diesel fuel over the woman and picked up a lighter with the intention of setting her on fire. The situation was prevented thanks to the quick action of a friend of the couple who, being present in the house, intervened and managed to restrain the 47-year-old before he could act.
The woman alerted the carabinieri, who intervened promptly and immobilised the assailant, confiscating the lighter. Upon the arrival of the officers, the attacker showed clear signs of intoxication. Fortunately, there were no injuries among those involved.
On the order of the public prosecutor's office in Ivrea, which is leading the investigation, the Moldovan man was taken into custody.
