At dawn on Tuesday 1 July, the carabinieri launched a major operation in the area of the former Safau, in the Borgo Stazione district of Udine. The operation, supported also by a helicopter that circled the zone from the early hours of the morning, resulted in the arrest of 15 people and the seizure of six kilogrammes of drugs.
According to investigations, the military personnel dismantled an organisation engaged in drug dealing with an estimated turnover of around €20,000 per day. The criminal network operated in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia capital and supplied the marketplace with narcotics.
The operation represents a major blow to drug trafficking in the area. The investigation, conducted over the preceding months, enabled the authorities to identify those responsible and to document the illicit activity before the joint operation.
