Major fuel tax fraud in Milan region: €60 million seizure
A vast tax evasion network in the petroleum products sector has been dismantled in the Milan region. Law enforcement has carried out a raid against an authorised facility which allegedly sold substantial quantities of fuel whilst evading tax payments.
The joint operation by the Financial Police and the Customs and Monopolies Agency (AdM) has resulted in the preventive seizure of over €60 million, with the aim of permanent confiscation. The decree was signed by the Preliminary Investigation Judge of the Lombardy capital on the request of the European Public Prosecutor's Office – Milan office, according to reports from Sky TG24.
Investigations revealed an unlawful mechanism operated by the depot, which allegedly distributed over 188 million litres of diesel and petrol on the market without payment of taxes. The legal representative and two administrators of the company involved have been reported, whilst the company itself has been referred to the judicial authorities.
