Milan, drunk driver hits motorcyclist and pedestrian and flees: 37-year-old Ukrainian arrested
A 37-year-old Ukrainian citizen was arrested overnight between Thursday and Friday after causing a serious road accident in the Lombardy capital. The man, driving a Mercedes, hit a motorcyclist first and then a passer-by, before fleeing without assisting either the victims or emergency responders.
The incident occurred around midnight in an area east of Milan. At the intersection, the motorist failed to give way to the motorcyclist, hitting him violently. Instead of stopping, he continued driving, subsequently hitting a pedestrian as well, before driving away again.
The motorcyclist was transported urgently to hospital in critical condition. The passer-by suffered less serious injuries. Both were assisted by healthcare personnel.
The driver was subsequently identified and stopped by officers from the Mobile Radio Unit of local police along the northern ring road. Subjected to a breathalyser test, he registered a value of 0.91, well above the permitted limit.
Charges were brought against him for failure to provide assistance and grievous bodily harm. As reported by ANSA, the 37-year-old was taken to prison.
