Modena, twenty-year-old arrested for swindling eighty-year-old man: stolen goods recovered

In the Emilia-Romagna city, police headquarters staff arrested a twenty-year-old boy originally from Naples. He is accused of defrauding an eighty-year-old man by getting him to hand over cash sums and a piece of jewellery.

It all began with an afternoon telephone call. The pensioner received a call from an individual who pretended to be from the Carabinieri police force. This stranger frightened the elderly man, making him believe he was involved in an investigation related to a theft committed at a jewellery shop. To prove he had nothing to do with it, the victim was persuaded to withdraw 2,600 euros and to buy a necklace worth 1,400 euros.

A few hours later, the unfortunate victim handed over what had been demanded to a person who presented himself near his home.

The Mobile Squad, operating in the Buon Pastore area following numerous reports of similar incidents, had noticed the young man moving about suspiciously. Officers kept his movements under observation, managing to intercept him before he could get away with the stolen goods.

At the end of the procedure, the magistrate at the Modena court validated the arrest and ordered the suspect not to leave the Naples municipality. In parallel, the offices responsible for prevention issued an order of mandatory removal from the Emilia-Romagna city for a period of four years.
