No genetic profile of Lorena Venier was found on the pillowcase which, according to the prosecution, was used to suffocate Alessandro Venier, who was killed and dismembered in July at his home in Gemona del Friuli. This is reported by rainews.it, citing tests conducted by the Parma Ris.
The analyses did, however, identify DNA traces traceable to the victim and his partner Mailyn Castro Monsalvo. For the lawyers of Lorena, Alice and Paolo Bevilacqua, the result would confirm the woman's version: it would have been solely the daughter-in-law who wielded the pillow during the suffocation.
The defence of Mailyn, represented by lawyers Federica Tosel and Francesco De Carlo, instead contends that the presence of the couple's DNA is compatible with normal domestic use of the pillow and does not prove the circumstances of the murder. According to this theory, death could have resulted from the earlier insulin injections administered by the mother to her son.
The trial will open on 20 July before the Assizes Court in Udine.
