The Rome prosecutor's office has opened a new file on the killing of director Pier Paolo Pasolini in Ostia in 1975, prompted by a submission from lawyer Stefano Maccioni. The defence points to a possible new witness and casts doubt on Pelosi's being alone on the evening of the murder.

Investigation reopened into Pasolini

According to rainews.it, the Rome prosecutor's office has opened a new investigation file on the murder of Pier Paolo Pasolini, killed in Ostia on the night between 1 and 2 November 1975. The proceedings have been assigned to deputy prosecutor Silvia Santucci and arise from a submission filed at Piazzale Clodio by lawyer Stefano Maccioni, who represents the Order of Journalists of Lazio, film director David Grieco and writer Giovanni Giovannetti.

The new submission, presented in November 2025 and supplemented in May 2026, is based on additional evidence gathered by the defence, including "new elements that emerged from viewing images of the news broadcast from the time provided by RAI", explains Maccioni. A comprehensive re-examination of the available data leads to a central question: "Pelosi was not certainly alone on the evening of the murder". It therefore becomes essential to reconstruct who may have been with him that night and to pursue investigative leads that remained open.

The lawyer welcomed the Rome prosecutor's decision to open new investigations with "emotion and satisfaction". "We trust that the prosecutor's office of Rome will finally be able to provide those answers we have been seeking for so many years", he stated, also calling on "all those people who until now have chosen to remain silent about what they know to come forward and speak". In the past, in 2016 and 2023, two requests for the reopening of the investigation had already been submitted, both rejected by the prosecutor's office.
