Anti-drug operation in Andria: 40 arrests
Forty people have been detained in Andria by the State Police. The precautionary measures were executed by the Mobile Squad of Barletta-Andria-Trani on the order of the Court of Trani. The suspects, aged between 20 and 60 years, are accused of managing an illicit drug market.
The organisation operated in multiple areas of the Apulian city. Each area had its own telephone contacts who organised meetings with buyers. After setting the place and time, the contacts would alert the couriers, who would move about with light vehicles such as scooters or electric bicycles to deliver the goods.
The structure was designed to make control by law enforcement difficult. The exchanges took place quickly and randomly, blending in with the sellers' daily routines.
During the investigation, detectives seized over €26,000 in cash. A further ten people were reported. The Police Chief also issued Daspo orders for all those detained, to prevent them from coming into contact with football stadium fan groups.
The operation is part of a broader investigation. A previous operation, called "Oppidum", had already led to the arrest of 30 people for the same offences.
