The city of Padua experienced an evening of ordinary criminal chaos. Three serious incidents occurred within a few hours, putting a strain on law enforcement and fuelling alarm over urban safety.
In the early afternoon, a 36-year-old Tunisian citizen was seriously wounded with a knife by a Senegalese man near Totem Park in the Arcella neighbourhood. The victim is hospitalised in critical condition, with a reserved prognosis and in life-threatening danger. The attacker was apprehended immediately by officers in flagrante delicto.
During clearing operations in the area, police searched the park and some abandoned buildings in the immediate vicinity. Inside, silver objects and other goods that had been stolen from apartments in the area in the preceding days were found.
Later in the evening, officers intervened in the Sherwood festival car park. Two Paduan youths, aged 21 and 22, were travelling in a car and fired six shots with a 9-calibre semi-automatic pistol loaded with blanks, shooting from the moving car's window. The two were stopped and reported; the weapon was seized.
During the night, finally, a gang of criminals broke into a jewellery shop in the historic centre, making off with jewellery estimated to be worth 15,000 euros. The robbery was recorded by security cameras and the images were published by the newspaper Il Mattino.
