Luigi Giordano, 27, was arrested for death by dangerous driving after hitting a scooter in the night between Friday and Saturday in Versilia. Two young people were travelling on the two-wheeled vehicle: Gabriele Martini, 17, who died at the scene, and an eighteen-year-old friend.
The accident occurred on viale Roma, in the Focette area, on the border between Marina di Pietrasanta and Forte dei Marmi (Lucca). According to ANSA, the SUV left the scene without those on board rendering assistance.
Giordano was traced during the day and surrendered. He is now being held in a holding cell at the Viareggio carabinieri station. The two women who were travelling with him have been reported at liberty for failure to render aid.
The 27-year-old tested negative for both alcohol and drugs. The investigation is being conducted by the Viareggio carabinieri.
