The operation resulted in the seizure of approximately 100 kilograms of drugs, several knives, cash, luxury watches and a car specially modified for transporting narcotics. According to findings from the investigation, the criminal group supplied not only Lombardy, Liguria and Tuscany but also seaside resorts on the Upper Adriatic during the summer months. Destinations included Lignano Sabbiadoro, Bibione, Jesolo, Caorle, Grado and Sistiana. The substances were sold near nightclubs, bars, beach establishments and accommodation facilities.
The starting point of the investigation was the arrest of two alleged drug couriers during a checkpoint near Latisana. Investigators subsequently discovered an elaborate network with logistical bases in several Lombard provinces and supply routes along the so-called Balkan route.
The authorities established that the organisation used encrypted communication platforms, frequently changed mobile phones, SIM cards and vehicles. The narcotics were stored in apartments and garages registered to nominees. Additionally, investigators found a marijuana plantation in Pavia province.
