Shooting in Foggia region: 35-year-old killed in rural ambush at Vieste
A 35-year-old man was killed yesterday evening in the countryside surrounding Vieste, in the Foggia area. The victim, identified as Antonello Scirpoli, also known by the nickname "Musulin", was on a scooter when he was shot.
The incident occurred in a rural area of the Gargano, in the Defensola Intersiglio locality, along a secondary road. According to the reconstruction so far, Scirpoli was struck by multiple shots fired from a rifle. There was nothing to be done for him: the emergency services that arrived at the scene could only confirm his death.
The victim was already known to law enforcement. The carabinieri who responded conducted the necessary investigations and opened an enquiry to trace those responsible. Efforts are currently underway to reconstruct Scirpoli's movements and contacts in the hours preceding his death.
Among the lines of investigation being pursued by investigators is the possible connection to organised crime operating in the Gargano area. It is not ruled out that the ambush may be part of internal settlings of accounts within this environment.
