Serie A star under investigation for child prostitution: must appear in court
A well-known Serie A footballer, defender for Inter and regular in the Italian national team, must appear before the Milan prosecutor on Friday of this week. The charge concerns payment for sexual relations with a 17-year-old girl in an incident dating back to June 2020.
The inquiry, conducted by the Milan prosecutor, centres on escort activities. Since the girl was a minor at the time of the alleged events, payment for sexual acts constitutes the crime of child prostitution.
The player's lawyer, Salvatore Scuto, has stated that his client is "deeply shaken". He also emphasised, according to reports from AP, that the footballer "has never had paid sexual relations, much less with minors".
La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that the girl has already been questioned. The young woman admits to having stayed at the footballer's residence, but denies any sexual relationship with him.
The 27-year-old footballer is also experiencing a difficult period on the sporting front. The Italian national team failed to qualify for the World Cup following a penalty shoot-out defeat against Bosnia and Herzegovina in the play-off. Italy will thus miss the third consecutive World Cup.
