A 57-year-old man has been arrested for attempting to rob a jewellery shop in the Tuscan capital. He threatened a shop assistant and drew a machete to make his escape.

An Italian man aged 57 has been remanded in custody at Sollicciano prison following an order by the preliminary investigation judge of the Tuscan capital. According to information communicated by the Florence Questura, the suspect must answer charges of attempted theft with intimidation and possession of improvised weapons.
The incident occurred on 13 May at a jewellery shop located on via Antonio del Pollaiolo. The suspect, with his hands covered by gloves, allegedly entered the premises and intimidated a shop worker. He then moved towards the counter with the intention of opening the safe.
The theft attempt was interrupted by the arrival of the owner of an adjacent business, alerted by the woman's screams. To make his escape, the 57-year-old drew a large knife with a long blade.
The investigation conducted by Mobile Squad officers, under the coordination of the local Public Prosecutor's Office, made it possible to identify the suspect through examination of urban security camera recordings. After being located, he was taken into custody and transferred to prison.
It should be emphasised that the guilt of the suspect and the existence of the offences alleged must be established at trial. At present, the man enjoys the presumption of innocence; the charges filed are provisional and will be examined by the competent judicial authority, in accordance with legislative decree 188/2021.
