The preliminary hearing judge at Rome's tribunal has decided to commit former senator Denis Verdini for trial in connection with proceedings relating to alleged irregularities in the awarding of contracts by Anas. The former parliamentarian faces a corruption charge. The first hearing of the trial has been scheduled for 16 September.
In the same ruling, the magistrate approved an agreement between the parties regarding the main defendant's son. Tommaso Verdini has accepted a plea bargain for a sentence of 2 years and 10 months in prison, which he must serve.
In the context of the same investigation file, official Domenico Petruzzelli opted for the abbreviated procedure. The judge sentenced him to one year and four months, but acquitted him of the auction interference charge of which he had been accused.
The investigation concerns contracts related to work assigned by the motorway authority.
