Sexual assault in Bettembourg: 12-year-old suspect arrested
A 12-year-old minor was arrested on Friday afternoon as part of an investigation into sexual assaults committed in Bettembourg. The case will be transferred to the Youth Protection Department.

The Luxembourg public prosecutor announced on Saturday morning the arrest, on Friday afternoon on 4 September, of a suspect in an investigation into sexual assault offences that occurred in Bettembourg. According to Le Quotidien, investigations have established that the suspect is a minor aged 12 years.
The matter follows several reports involving young women who were approached, harassed, touched or followed by an unknown individual in the streets of Bettembourg. In one of the cases, the victim had been followed to the vicinity of her home.
As soon as the facts were brought to the attention of the authorities, officers from the territorially competent police station collected complaints and launched initial investigations. "These steps made it possible to advance the investigation and quickly lead to the identification of a potential suspect," the prosecutor stated in a communiqué published on Saturday.
The judicial aspect was then taken over by the Judicial Police Service, Youth Protection and Sexual Offences section. Investigators proceeded to arrest the person concerned on Friday afternoon, before questioning him.
The case will now be transferred to the Youth Protection Department of the Luxembourg prosecutor's office and handled "in accordance with the legal provisions applicable to minors," the institution specifies.
Due to the suspect's age, the prosecutor indicated that it does not wish to communicate further information at this stage. "In view of the young age of the person concerned and in order to protect the interests of the minor, no additional information will be communicated at this stage of the proceedings," the prosecutor stated.
