Riga police have arrested two men suspected of dealing drugs. One had amphetamine, the other had more than 50 grammes of cocaine.

Two men arrested in Āgenskalns with amphetamine and cocaine

Officers from the Riga Pārdaugava division of the State Police arrested two men on 1 July who are suspected of drug trafficking in the capital. The State Police reported the matter.

The arrested men are aged 48 and 41. Substance containing amphetamine was seized from the younger of the two. The other had more than 50 grammes of substance containing cocaine and other prohibited substances, the precise composition of which is still being determined through expert examination.

The older man has been remanded in custody by the court. The younger man was already wanted in another case, for which he had also been ordered detained — remanded in custody. Both men have prior convictions for unlawful drug trafficking.

A criminal case has been opened under Article 253.1 of the Criminal Law for the manufacture, acquisition, storage or transportation of prohibited substances with the intention to sell, as well as for sale itself. This offence carries a penalty of imprisonment from two to eight years, confiscation of property or probation supervision of up to three years.
