On Monday, 1 June, a detainee escaped from a medical facility in Riga. The man is suspected of theft involving breaking and entering, according to the Delfi.lv portal, citing the State Police and the Prison Administration (IeVP).
The man had been escorted to the hospital from a prison. Following his escape, the IeVP immediately informed the State Police and provided it with the necessary information for search operations.
Police officers established the fugitive's location and, approximately one hour after receiving news of the escape, apprehended him in the vicinity of Riga Central Station. The man was taken back to Riga Central Prison.
In connection with the incident, a criminal case was opened at the State Police, and the IeVP initiated a service investigation. The IeVP stated that no further detailed information would be provided at this time.
