State Police have launched a criminal investigation into an assault on a doctor at the admission department of Jēkabpils Regional Hospital, which was committed on 6 August at approximately 21.06 by one of the visitors who arrived, according to TVNET.
Two men and three women arrived at the hospital — one of them had an injured hand. Information provided by police indicates that the individuals behaved inadequately and disrupted the work of the healthcare facility.
The duty doctor, wishing to protect himself and his colleagues, refused to provide assistance without police presence. This decision did not satisfy those present, and one of the men assaulted the doctor, causing him bodily injuries.
Police identified all persons involved in the incident. A woman born in 1982 has had two administrative offence proceedings initiated against her — for being in a public place under the influence of alcohol in a manner that disturbs public order, and for disturbing public order. Her breath test showed 1.52 parts per million of alcohol.
A man born in 1976 has had a criminal investigation opened against him for hooliganism in connection with causing bodily injury to the doctor. The man initially left the scene of the incident before police arrived and continued to evade law enforcement. He was detained on 13 August.
A security measure not involving deprivation of liberty has been applied to the suspect, including a ban on approaching the injured doctor, as well as a ban on leaving the country.
State Police remind that a person cannot be considered guilty until their guilt has been proven in the manner prescribed by law.
